Heart of Danville mourns loss of
downtown church
Danville, KY— Heart of Danville acknowledges the loss of the historic Church of God of America Church located on Martin Luther King Blvd. The HOD also pledges to do whatever is necessary to keep this historic asset in downtown Danville.
The Heart recognizes the loss of the church as historic, and one whose impact will be immediately felt throughout the community.“Anytime a building is lost, there are ramifications to the downtown economy,” said Julie Wagner, Executive Director of the Heart of Danville. “While this building was not a National Register-listed structure, the congregation and their location are historic to the community and the downtown area. The congregation has worshipped at this location for generations.”
Given this Church of God of America served as the regional headquarters for the Church of God in West Virginia and Kentucky, the loss will be larger than just to downtown Danville, said Wagner. The community and its officials must move quickly to keep operations in both states moving as smoothly as possible
“This considerable loss will be felt all over, and Bishop Pastor Tim Napier will need the support of the community and economic development officials to secure a temporary worship space and retain the headquarters locally.”
In that same regard, the Heart pledges its assistance in doing whatever is necessary to keep the church downtown. |
